SELF-HELP IN A HUDDLE

Oil on canvas   |  150*180

This undergraduate graduation work is based on the theme of “people's feelings are not interchangeable”, which profoundly and poetically presents the inner gap and loneliness. In the painting, the swimming pool with rising water level becomes a metaphor, symbolizing suppressed emotions and unbridgeable distance. Each of the three figures lives on one side of the painting, displaying very different states of mind and attitudes: one is wearing a heavy astronaut suit, immersed in the pool, isolated and numb, as if cut off from the outside world; the other is standing on the shore, quietly watching, with a cold but complex gaze, implying the helplessness of the bystander; the third is struggling for help with only one hand on the surface of the water, with the red color gradually fading into white, symbolizing that the voice of the call for help is gradually weakening in silence. This work is my exploration of the human inner gap - three people, three positions, three attitudes, but unable to touch each other's souls, telling a silent symphony of loneliness.
