In 2024, I was invited to illustrate a joint project between Quark Scanners and the Dunhuang Art Museum, “I'm Coloring Dunhuang,” with the aim of recreating the charm of Dunhuang art from a modern perspective. I chose celestial blue as the main color, which is as clear and elegant as the sky clearing up after a rainy day, giving the traditional Dunhuang imagery a cool and modern aura. In the illustration, the figure of the flying sky dances lightly, with the classic cloud patterns and floral elements of Dunhuang murals incorporated into the fluttering of the sleeves, and the azure color is dyed in between, giving it a soft and ethereal feel. The background is outlined with clean lines, preserving the cultural charm of Dunhuang while adding breathing space for contemporary aesthetics. In terms of color, azure blends with light gold and light grey, paying homage to tradition while breaking through the heaviness of ancient rhythms, presenting a fresh and modern visual dialogue. This work attempts to link the past and present with the color of azure, injecting new meaning into Dunhuang art and evoking the viewer's empathy for cultural inheritance and innovation!
